Liberty’s History
Liberty Automotive has been proudly serving our community since April 1965, originally opening as Liberty Auto City. Over the years, we’ve hosted an array of franchises, including Buick, Eagle, Opel, Mazda, Suzuki, and Hyundai, establishing ourselves as a true “city of cars.”
Today, Liberty Automotive is honored to represent Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Subaru — brands we’ve proudly carried for over 30 years.
Our story is deeply rooted in family and hard work. Joe Massarelli began his journey at Liberty as a porter, working diligently through every position in the dealership before becoming the sole owner in 2008. In 2020, Joe was elected by his peers to represent the Chicagoland area on the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) board. This prestigious role allows him to collaborate with government leaders to advocate for and improve the automotive industry nationwide.
In the spring of 2024, Joey Massarelli joined Liberty, marking the start of our third generation in the family business. Before returning home, Joey gained valuable experience working at the renowned Ricart dealership in Columbus.
While we’ve updated our name from Liberty Auto City to Liberty Automotive, our commitment to excellence remains unchanged. Still owned and operated by the same family since 1965, we take great pride in delivering exceptional hospitality and customer service to every guest who walks through our doors.

A Hive of Activity (Our Bee Initiative)
In 2025, we did something truly unique – Liberty Automotive became the first car dealership in America to host its own honey bee hives on-site. Why bees?
